OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS LATE 1980s – PRESENT (family roots to the 1960s)

Kendrick Ching has been making lures as KC Lures since the late 1980s, though the roots run deeper — he got his start back in the 1960s making lures with his dad as a hobby and selling them to local businesses around Hawaii.

Ching holds a notable place in the story of one particular design: the Lock Nut. He was one of the earliest makers of Lock Nut lures, working from original molds by Hawaiian lure maker Ronald Morikawa — and the now-famous Kenny Llanes Locknut and Joe Yee Lock Washer followed in that same lineage. His original Lock Nuts are heavy, substantial heads, and a genuine early example (a 12-ouncer, say) is a rare and prized find today.
