The shape he named for the Yap Islands stuck — becoming his signature lure.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith its blunt nose and slightly off-center leader hole, the Yap has a meandering, quivering swim and a famously high hookup ratio. Schneider copyrighted it, making it one of the first offshore lures ever patented, and it still holds the Florida state record: a 981-pound blue caught off Destin. \u003cem\u003eMarlin\u003c\/em\u003e magazine named the Yap one of the ten best offshore lures of all time.
