Big Reidee Lures
HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII — ACTIVE YEARS EARLY 1980s – PRESENT
Big Reidee Lures are handmade one by one by Ron Akana out of Honolulu, Hawaii. He has been making lures since the 1980s and is widely regarded as one of the original ("OG") Hawaiian lure makers, with decades of experience behind every piece he produces.
The "Big Reidee" lure was first created in the mid-1990s and named in honor of his son.
Ron keeps his lineup simple, focusing on a small number of proven shapes — primarily bullets, scoops, and slants. His most recognized designs center around a 4-hole jetted scoop and slant in the 9-inch range, built to perform consistently across a wide range of offshore conditions.
Akana has fished and built lures alongside some of Hawaii's most respected lure makers, earning a reputation within that circle as a highly skilled and trusted craftsman. His lures have also proven themselves in competition, including a win at the El Salvador International Tournament and placements in Hawaii's Ahi Fever and Maui Trailer Boat Club tournaments.
