The Black Bart RPP (often nicknamed the "HOT ONE" in tournament circles) is a compact, angle-nosed big-game trolling lure celebrated for its incredible versatility. While many of Black Bart's larger lures are designed for specific rigger or corner tracks, the RPP is uniquely engineered to run flawlessly in any sea condition and from any position in the spread.
Design & Action Mechanics
- Nose Geometry: It features a distinct angled nose matched with a short, stubby, heavily weighted body. This shape creates a very stable, fast-swimming erratic action without excessive tumbling.
- The "All Species" Weapon: Because of its mid-sized profile, it has an exceptional hookup ratio on both small and large pelagic fish. It is highly effective for marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, and large mahi-mahi.
- Trolling Stability: The lead-weighted core keeps the head pinned below the surface wake, generating a dense, tight smoke trail even when pulled at higher tournament speeds.
Specifications & New Retail Costs
If you are pricing or rigging a new model, it aligns with these current specifications from major offshore outfitters:
- Sizing Specs: The unskirted hard head weighs 5.5 oz, measuring 1.6" long by 1.3" in diameter. When fully dressed in its signature S5 replacement skirts, the total length stretches to 12 to 13 inches.
- Rigging Recommendations: It is optimized for 50 to 130 lb line classes and performs best when rigged with a 9/0 or 10/0 single or double hookset on a 150 to 300 lb leader.
