This is a cup faced chugger shape by Zeir Lures 13” length.
If you have a vintage lure that is stamped or verified as a Fred Zier (ZZZ) but has a cup-faced (chugger) shape, you are looking at one of his rarest configurations.
- The Mechanism: Traditional cup-faced lures are simply molded out of a single piece of poured resin. A true Fred Zier cup-face is distinctly constructed using his signature multi-piece machined assembly (often utilizing chrome-over-brass components or heavy, perfectly balanced internal weighting blocks).
- The Appeal: Because a cup-faced lure creates an immense amount of surface drag and aggressive "popping" action when trolled, Zier’s ultra-precise internal weighting was engineered so the lure would instantly stabilize itself rather than tumbling out of the water at higher trolling speeds.
