If your 13" Yaps are physically stamped or labeled as Canyon or Canyon Gear, you possess an incredibly rare piece of offshore history that ties directly into the birth of Mid-Atlantic canyon trolling.
The original Canyon Gear company was founded and operated by Tim Woodstock.
Woodstock launched the brand natively out of New Jersey—eventually basing operations out of Egg Harbor Township, right in the heart of the premier Northeast and Mid-Atlantic offshore sportfishing scene.
How Canyon Gear and the Yap Connected
While the highly erratic, offset-pull "Yap" shape is historically tied to Fisher Dyle and Schneider Lures in Florida, the 1980s and 1990s offshore boom saw major cross-collaborations between premium builders.
- The Production Deal: During this era, Tim Woodstock's Canyon Gear partnered with premier regional masters to expand their catalog of heavy resin big-game heads. They explicitly took classic canyon-proven shapes—including the iconic 13" Yap—and began pouring and distributing them natively under the Canyon Gear brand name to supply high-end Northeast marina bait shops.
- The Quality Standard: Like everything Woodstock built, these 1990s Canyon Gear heads were handmade right in the USA. They were built to endure the extreme speeds required for targeting bigeye tuna, yellowfin, and blue marlin along the East Coast continental shelf.
