The Fred Zier (ZZZ Lures) model matching that exact description is the ZZZ Round-Head Stick or Long Bullet (often referred to simply as the ZZZ Long Head).
Unlike his famous slant-faced or cup-faced "Mako" pushers, this specific design featured an elongated, perfectly symmetrical cylindrical resin head with a smooth, completely domed round nose. [1]
Design Mechanics & Action
Zier designed this long, round-ended model for highly specific blue-water trolling conditions:
- The "Stick" Profile: The long, streamlined body allowed the lure to slice clean through heavy chop without flipping or rolling, making it a favorite for high-speed tracking. [1]
- The Round End: Lures with flat or angled faces aggressively pop and dive. The round nose on this ZZZ model, however, was engineered to stay subtly subsurface. It creates a tight, fluid swimming or weaving action rather than an explosive splash. [1]
- The Nacre Core: Because the head was exceptionally long, it showcased a massive piece of his signature mother-of-pearl (nacre) slab running down the center core, catching a massive amount of light from all angles underwater.
