Product Overview
Up for auction/sale is a highly collectible artifact from the golden age of big-game offshore fishing: an original 1980s Bob Schneider Medium Yap trolling head. Hand-poured by legendary pioneer Bob Schneider in South Florida, the "Yap" shape is considered an elite, hall-of-fame tuna catcher. Original 1980s iterations are fiercely sought after by high-end vintage tackle collectors and competitive canyon tournament captains alike.
Design & Performance Features
  • The "Yap" Architecture: Features a perfectly streamlined, straight bullet-style profile that tapers forward into a tight, hard-edged, subtle cup-nose. This unique geometry allows the head to bite into the water rather than skipping wildly on top.
  • Sub-Surface White-Water Tracking: Because of its heavy internal lead-weighted core and aerodynamic shape, the Medium Yap tracks straight through the densest white water and heavy sea swells without blowing out of the wake. It operates flawlessly at standard tournament speeds (7–10 knots) as well as higher-speed wahoo pulls.
  • Massive Smoke Trail: As it trolls, the tight cup-nose traps small pockets of air and forces them backward, generating a deep, sub-surface "hiss" and a dense, continuous visual bubble trail that sharp-sighted tuna can track from great depths.
  • Trolling Spread Specialty: This incredibly stable head is a true all-around producer, but it excels as a "sniper" bait run far back in the clean water on the long outriggers or the shotgun position.
